Dopamine antagonist

A type of drug that blocks dopamine receptors, most commonly D2, and has antipsychotic, antiemetic, and sedative effects. Most relevant adverse effects are extrapyramidal symptoms (e.g., dyskinesia, akathisia, tardive dyskinesia). Dopamine antagonists are classified as mildly, moderately, and highly antipsychotic. Agents include haloperidol, flupentixol, promazine, and melperone.
