A type of CD4-positive T cell that functions in augmenting and coordinating the immune response. Releases cytokines in response to recognition of antigens presented on MHC-II receptors. Subtypes include Th1, Th2 and Th17 cells. The specific subtype determines which cytokines are released and, consequently, the type of immune response.
